Nat Rose

Full Name: Natalie Rose Te Hei

Iwi / Hapu: Ngati Porou, Ngati Rangi

From the first word of her opening song Nat has audiences falling in love with her rich vocal style. By the end of her set they are desperate to know when they can hear her again. She has the finesse of Lauren Hill, the soul of Jaguar Wright, the passion of Erica Badu and the voice of Jill Scott.

Originating from a musical family, with her uncle Reno Te Hei playing in The La De Da's and The Compulsions in the 60's and 70's, Nat first performed seriously in Japan at the tender age of 18 then went on to tour with the Upper Hut Posse.

She successfully completed a Diploma of Music at MAINZ Music College in Auckland in 2000, and since then has been concentrating on developing her vibrant, warm live performance and original song writing.

Nat Rose joined the Sugarlicks family early in the new millennium working with the likes of Mark de Clive Lowe, Manuel Bundy and more and formed the popular band, Lennox Ave, alongside Leon Keelan Davies (Katchafire) and Tyna Keelan (Recloose, Dubious Bros). Rose and the band create an original mix of contemporary Soul, Jazz, and Roots. Her lyrics are heartfelt, and positive, describing the essence and depth of what is important in life as she sees it.

She has been performing regularly in Auckland and Wellington, playing such venues as Galatos, Safari Lounge and Bar Bodega with stand out performances at Auckland's Grey Lynn Festival, Aotea Centres First Night New Year Festival and Whopperchopper.

"Nat Rose is Aotearoa's best kept secret!"

                                                        Golden Hour - Nat Rose

Golden Hour, the slick debut album from Nat Rose could, quite frankly, warm-up anybody's winter. Here in Aotearoa we tend to get swamped by loads of 'new soul' and R'n'B treacle from the slick production houses of urban America. What has saved our eyes and ears in recent years have been the earthy musical refreshments created by home-grown groove-makers such as Che Fu, TrinityRoots, The Opensouls and Fat Freddy's Drop. Nat Rose finds her own spot along this fully-coloured sound spectrum - with this rootsy, soulful and honest contribution.
