KJ's SECOND SINGLE RELEASE - LOUI- OUT NOW!!!
The Kaipara Jammers bandwagon rolls on with the release of the second single ‘Loui’ from their debut album Offshore. The new KJ’s single is driven by the same high-energy ska-influenced sound that has attracted a dedicated legion of fans among those who’ve seen them live, but getting at the soul of this song demands more from the listener than just a good old fashioned jump around. ‘Loui’ was born of a true story. Most of us find that it seems like it’s never the right time or place to express something we know a loved one needs to hear, but then that’s where creators like KJ’s wordsmith Aquus Minor are lucky. It all comes out on page and onstage. [read more below] ...
![]() There is a connection between the KJ’s and the sea that is referenced in their lyrics, and in their lifestyles. All the band’s members would rather wake up to the sound of surf than traffic, and ‘Loui’ speaks of a close friend who wandered away from that cleansing spiritual nourishment and ‘mana reinforcement’ that keep the band going. It’s a familiar tale, and one we can all relate to. A brother or sister gets that ‘big city dreaming’ look in their eye, and we can only watch as someone we love is pulled down into self-destruction, with no-one around to bring them back into the warmth of the aroha they left behind. And it’s normally pride that keeps our people on that wrong path, that road we just want to tell them they don’t have to walk. ‘Loui’ is one such lost sheep, who happily made it back to the fold, though not before drink, drugs and all the other trappings had chipped away a chunk of his innocence and enthusiasm for life. But Loui made it out alive, as lyricist Aquus alludes to: “So he moved to the coast. As close as he could be. If there ain’t no-one, he’ll always have the sea. It’s easy for him to find, it’s always right on time. Now he’s back in the wind, with a girl on either side.” For Guitarist Shaun Darlison (yes, he’s aware that he sounds somewhat like the guy from Sublime), the incongruity between the KJ’s you see pumping up the general energy level on stage and the depth of the lyrics they pen is part of the soul of the band. “Yeah that’s something we take real pride in. We want to communicate what the KJ’s are all about, like our view of life, in the lyrics we bring to our songs. We know that we can get a crowd into it, but we want people to take something from the songs when they’re just listening by themselves.” Judges at a recent Battle of the Bands saw the soul that the KJ’s bring to the stage, and put them into the finals. Many more will come to know the simple but life-affirming message that these guys live and express through music.

![]() Triple A has re-released the three albums recorded by
iconic Australian electronica duo 2ABUs.
The group which is the vehicle for Tim Gruchy and Tony Kastanos evolved in the early ‘00s out of a long-standing friendship. ‘‘At the time we got great reviews but like a lot of artists working in the genre not a huge amount of sales,’’ Gruchy says. ‘‘Over the years, many of the tracks have been licensed or used for commercials and installations, which is something Tony and I are very proud of. The three albums, The Dark Hand of ABU, T’ABU and Warf-air (intellectro), were released between 2002 and 2006. Gruchy, who has been living in New Zealand for the past six years is working on his debut album for Triple A. ‘‘I have been working with James Pinker [musician and one-time sound engineer for Brian Eno],’’ Gruchy says. ‘‘He has been my main musical collaborator in New Zealand. We have done a whole swag of stuff – probably about three albums worth of material, which I’m slowly getting ready for release on Triple A.’’ At this stage the 2ABU albums are available only as digital downloads. ‘‘We are looking at doing a small run of albums, even if
just for promotional purposes,’’ Triple A boss TeMatera Smith says. ‘‘The
albums are fantastic and haven’t aged like a lot of pop music does.’’
Triple A recording artist Thomas Coffey will premier his new single LIVE on TVOne's Breakfast show on Friday 22nd February, to mark the second anniversary of the makor earthquake that claimed 185 lives.
The Christchurch born and bred songwriter wrote TREMENDOUS HEART after his experience of living through both major earthquakes in the badly shaken city.
In a tribute to the victims and a celebration of the city's resillience, TVNZ's Breakfast is broadcasting LIVE from Latimer Square. Thomas is stoked to be playing live on Breakfast on Friday with his song.
"TREMEDOUS HEART is a song about hope, which is something people here have had to hold onto through very frustrating and difficult times."
The video for TREMENDOUS HEART was shot on location in Christchurch in the Falsgrave tunnel near the damaged AMI Stadium. "I saw it and immediately thought of the light at the end of the tunnel."
Profits from the single, which is available through AMPLIFIER will be donated to Christchurch non-profit organisation MHAPS, which offers Mental Health Advocacy and Peer Support.
Coffey will also be a guest of the MOREFM Drive Time show hosted by Lana Searle late Thursday afternoon.
On the Saturday, Coffey will again be the focal point for another fundraising effort on behalf of the Canterbury Earthquake Children's Trust, which was set up to assist the 66 children who lost a parent in the February 22, 2011 earthquake.
The organisation is holding a "RUN TO REMEMBER RACE". At it's conclusion a minute's silence will be held at 12:51pm to commemorate the time the earthquake struck. Coffey will then play TREMENDOUS HEART to break the silence while 185 white balloons are released.
TREMENDOUS HEART is the second single from the album DOMINOS, the debut album by Coffey and his band The Grinders; available through Triple A Records and Border Music.
Tune in to KIWIFM on the 18th December from 5-7pm to hear Ben Hope on the Independent, Alternative and New show interviewing Thomas Coffey along with a live acoustic session in the studio!
Thomas Coffey has put the heat back into his first single just in time for summer. The Christchurch-based songwriter has re-edited the video for So Hot Right Now, the first single off his debut album Dominos. “It was one of those odd things,” Coffey says. “Matt [TeMatera Smith] from Triple A and I were looking at all of the footage from the original shoot and realised that there was some great stuff that hadn’t made it to the first edit.” “There’s a lot more action and we’ve added some post production effects to give it more of a sense of the heat that’s typical on the Canterbury plains during summer. It was shot in Ashburton 70k south of Christchurch and also just behind the Christchurch airport. “This is probably one of the most multi-layered songs I’ve written,. It’s not about being sexy. It’s about being hot as in ready. I sung it at a party and these six or seven guys, who were all drunk, linked arms and started singing “so hot right now”. I thought, thanks guys you have just written my chorus. It’s a forward-looking song. I had just signed a deal with Matt Smith at Triple A records and was both excited and nervous. “The video though is a lot more literal. I hold a sign saying “to somewhere cooler” and the whole video is about trying to stay cool on a hot summer’s day.” After a month in which he met Marcus Mumford from Mumford and Sons – it was just before their encore and he asked me for a lighter, so I obliged and gave him my CD too. Hell of a nice chap – Coffey is already working on a new project close to his heart with Triple A. He plans to release a second single off Dominos, Tremendous Heart, a song written in the aftermath of the devastating February 2011 Christchurch earthquake to coincide with its anniversary.
Triple A records are pleased to announce that Fractured have been included in the Beyond The Black New Years Eve festival. With the up coming release of their new, and as yet untitled album, Fractured are looking to further increase their fan base and gain exposure. Mark Kelly said "This is a fantastic opportunity for us. To be included as part of a festival that is solely focused on Heavy metal and all its variants; will allow us to reach a larger audience but also is a great way to catch up with friends we have from other bands and meet and make new fans." So if you are in Wellington area on 31/12/2012, head to the Trentham racecourse, in Upper Hutt for what promises to a night of sheer brutality!
